Introducing World Computer Hacker League: Four-Month Global Competition to Build Next-Gen Apps
May 23, 2025

As part of ongoing efforts to encourage innovation and promote inclusive participation in the global innovative space, the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) ecosystem has announced the launch of the World Computer Hackathon League (WCHL), a structured, multi-stage hackathon with a total prize pool of $300,000.
The initiative is designed to support developers from ideation through to full product deployment, with the aim of accelerating the development of impactful blockchain and AI-powered applications. In response, ICP Hub Nigeria is calling on all developer communities, startups, and young innovators to take advantage of this opportunity.
The WCHL will progress through four stages, beginning with idea submissions and culminating in the final-stage scaling of the product. The prize pool is allocated as follows:
Qualification Round - $30,000 across all countries for initial traction. (July 1st 2025)
National Round - $50,000 across all countries with bounties for technical achievements and innovation. (August, 2025)
Regional Round - $70,000 across all regions for regional leaders demonstrating technical skills and product-market fit. (October, 2025)
Global Finale Round - $150,000, including special awards for innovation and ecosystem impact. (September, 2025)
The Co-founder of ICP Hub Nigeria noted that the league provides a unique platform for Nigerian developers to build globally relevant solutions while gaining access to mentorship, funding, and long-term technical support.
The World Computer Hackathon League is not just a contest; it is a comprehensive innovation pathway. Nigerian developers are exceptionally talented, and this platform ensures their ideas are not only heard but also scaled. It is an invitation to build on one of the most advanced and decentralized infrastructures in the world.
Built on the Internet Computer blockchain, the hackathon leverages ICP’s developer-friendly architecture and advanced features such as Chain Fusion Technology, which allows seamless interaction with networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum without bridges or third-party integrations.
The World Computer Hackathon League (WCHL) is designed to be accessible to both experienced Web3 developers and those from traditional Web2 backgrounds who are looking to explore decentralized development.
The technical barrier to entry is intentionally low. What matters is the idea and the willingness to execute. ICP provides the environment, tools, and community support required to turn any concept into a working digital product.
Registration for the WCHL is currently open at Dorahacks, and developers can register as individuals or as part of a team. Developers registered as ICP Hub Nigeria participants will have access to localized support through educational sessions, onboarding assistance, and access to collaboration channels.
The Hub’s leadership reiterated that the league aligns with ongoing efforts to promote local talent in global innovation pipelines and position Nigeria as a hub for scalable, Web3-based solutions.
Interested developers, builders, and startups are invited to participate and contribute to shaping the future of open internet services.
